SmartMoney.com publishes a 10 THINGS article series by Jena McGregor and AnnaMaria Andriotis.  They recently wrote an article on the 10 Things All-Inclusive Resorts Won’t Tell You.  All-inclusive resorts provide accommodations, food and drinks and some entertainment options at their resorts for one price.  Many people enjoy them because they don’t have to think about where to eat or find entertainment choices since they are provided by the resort.

More all-inclusive resorts are maintained as hotel resorts rather than timeshares.  The business model is more appropriate for hotel rooms without kitchens to provide dining choices on their resorts.  Timeshare resorts do have restaurants, shopping and entertainment at their resorts as well, but they are priced separately from annual maintenance fees.

Here is a summary of the 10 Things All-Inclusive Resorts Won’t Tell You:
1. “‘All inclusive’ doesn’t include everything.”
2. “There’s a lot to know about our service before you arrive.”
3. “Booking flights can be tricky.”
4. “Our hurricane guarantee doesn’t guarantee much.”
5. “Your travel agent gets incentives to book with us.”
6. “We might try to sell you a timeshare.”
7. “We typically cater to specific groups.”
8. “We’re not always the cheaper option.”
9. “‘Open bar’ isn’t as great as it sounds.”
10. “We can be bad for the local economy.”

For potential vacationers and timeshare owners, pay particular attention to item number 6 on the list.  In order to reduce costs, hotels will allow timeshares to be marketed at the hotel, or they may have a timeshare division themselves.  Although they may offer something for free for your attendance, just remember that it’s your vacation time that they’ll be taking from you.  From personal experience, this can last up to 3 hours even though they promise only 90 minutes.

Timeshare Relief RainbowFor many, going to a timeshare presentation might seem like riding to the end of a rainbow looking for the pot of gold — a luxury vacation always waiting year after year for less than a 3-star hotel room.  But the timeshare leprechauns often play a cruel prank on the unsuspecting, turning that pot of gold into a lead weight that must be carried on for a lifetime.

While there are timeshare owners who enjoy their timeshares for years, a great number end up very dissatisfied or worse, becoming financially destitute because of their timeshares.  Getting rid of a timeshare is often harder than getting green out of St. Patrick’s Day, and the promises at the presentations simply evaporate revealing only the hardness of a timeshare contract.

So, generate your own luck, contact Timeshare Relief at 1-866-797-0535 and find out how you can get out of that timeshare.  Our advisors understand the pain of distressed timeshare owners after helping over 35,000 owners and successfully over 42,000 timeshares.

Timeshare Relief smiley facesFor one of the funniest recollection stories of a timeshare presentation, go to Leann’s blog here.  If you’ve ever gone to a timeshare presentation, you’ll relate to the story, and if you haven’t had the wonderful experience of the hardest sell-job EVER, you definitely should read the story in it’s entirety…

Flat…out…hilarious…

Here’s an excerpt:

Our sales person Sir Ken of Amway introduced himself and led us to our table where he promised we would spend no longer than 90 minutes listening to a very low key fairy tale about magical destinations after which we would be free to have our prize bestowed upon us.

And another:

The Rogue offered us COOKIES! He even played the “I was a single dad and I regret not spending more quality time with my kids” card.   Oh yes, HE DID go there! The man was a WIZARD I tell you!

Timeshare Relief has helped tens of thousands of timeshare owners in the last six years get rid of their timeshares.  Some owners have purchased multiple timeshares because they just cannot say “No” to the timeshare salespeople.  In fact, timeshare owners are more likely to purchase another timeshare than a non-buyer.  We cannot understand how many timeshares a single couple can end up owning.

So for the timeshare owner or non-owner alike, here’s our best tip on how to say “No” at a timeshare presentation…

Request a copy of the timeshare contract for your lawyer.

If you ask for the timeshare contract for your lawyer (who should not be readily accessible) to read and review, you’ll create an impasse.  Timeshare sales people are trained to never let you remove any documentation from the presentation room.  It might contradict what was said during your visit and the length of many timeshare contracts is enough to scare off buyers.  So more likely than not, you will not get your copy.

Regardless whether you get a copy or not, at this point you’ll want to leave.  Yet, the sales process has yet to go through the gauntlet of sales techniques used at these presentations.  So, be prepared for the timeshare sales people to stall or change the subject away from the documentation.

They will ask why you need it since there is a rescission period during which you can cancel your contract.  You can respond by saying that you’d be more comfortable taking the contract to your lawyer, or that for large purchases at presentation-style sales meetings, you feel you must take the timeshare contract to your lawyer.

Don’t worry if you do not have a lawyer.  If you feel guilty about fibbing to the timeshare sales people, just know that you probably know someone who knows a lawyer who would be your lawyer without an issue.

The beauty of this objection is that you are not saying “No” to buying, just that you want to take the time to investigate it properly.  Salespeople are trained to overcome “No” responses.  Eventually they may be able to overcome the “Take the documents out of the room” objection as well but it’s definitely not easy and not heard as much as “I can’t afford it” or “I don’t take enough vacations.”

So, keep this Timeshare Relief tip in mind the next time you find yourself at a timeshare presentation.  Remember, if you REALLY want a buy a timeshare (we wouldn’t know why you would), purchasing a timeshare in the presentation room is the most expensive place anyways.  Try your best to walk out of the room as soon as you can, but be prepared to stay a while.  Even the most effective objection won’t get you through quickly.
