For a second year in a row, Timeshare Relief received the Best of Torrance Award sponsored by the US Commerce Association (USCA) and recognizes exceptional local businesses in the US. Every year the USCA identifies businesses that enhance the positive image of small business through their dedication to customer service and community support.
The Best of Torrance Award in 2010 was again a pleasant surprise especially since only a scant 1.4% (1 in 70) of small businesses nationwide qualify as repeat Awardees. It’s proof-positive that not only does company provide a great service, it does so with the customer in mind.
“We are honored to be chosen for the Best of Torrance Award,” said David MacMillan, Founder and President of Timeshare Relief. “We put together a small team dedicated to helping people. Today our business model has allowed us to grow and help tens of thousands of dissatisfied timeshare owners get out of timeshares.
Carolyn McLaughlin used the Timeshare Relief services after trying to sell their timeshare own their own by paying someone to sell it, but did not have success. It was money wasted. Although Carolyn would have liked to have sold the timeshare, she’s at least out of it now and never has to pay another maintenance fee or special assessment again.
Interviewer: For the record, if it’s okay, what is your name?
Carolyn McLaughlin: Carolyn McLaughlin.
Interviewer: Are you satisfied with the service that Timeshare Relief has provided?
Carolyn McLaughlin: Yes.
Interviewer: Are you still paying for your timeshare?
Carolyn McLaughlin: No.
Interviewer: Did you enjoy receiving the notification of final transfer?
Carolyn McLaughlin: Well, I don’t know that I enjoyed it. We were just kind of glad to get it off our hands.
Interviewer: Did you try any other service besides Timeshare Relief to get you out of your timeshare?
Carolyn McLaughlin: We tried to sell it.
Interviewer: How did that work for you?
Carolyn McLaughlin: Well, the first time somebody charged us an upfront fee and didn’t do a thing. And we tried two other people and didn’t get very far with it, so that’s when we decided to dump it when we read about you.
Interviewer: On a scale of 1-10, what is your overall satisfaction level with our service?
Carolyn McLaughlin: Oh, a 9.
Interviewer: Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience with Timeshare Relief?
Carolyn McLaughlin: No, not particular.
Interviewer: Based on your experience, would you recommend our service?
Carolyn McLaughlin: Yes.
Interviewer: Sounds like you were pleased with your experience with us.
Carolyn McLaughlin: Yeah. Not unhappy with it; just unhappy I had to give it away.
Interviewer: Thank you so much for your time and have a nice day.
Carolyn McLaughlin: Bye-Bye.

SmartMoney.com publishes a 10 THINGS article series by Jena McGregor and AnnaMaria Andriotis. They recently wrote an article on the 10 Things All-Inclusive Resorts Won’t Tell You. All-inclusive resorts provide accommodations, food and drinks and some entertainment options at their resorts for one price. Many people enjoy them because they don’t have to think about where to eat or find entertainment choices since they are provided by the resort.
More all-inclusive resorts are maintained as hotel resorts rather than timeshares. The business model is more appropriate for hotel rooms without kitchens to provide dining choices on their resorts. Timeshare resorts do have restaurants, shopping and entertainment at their resorts as well, but they are priced separately from annual maintenance fees.
Here is a summary of the 10 Things All-Inclusive Resorts Won’t Tell You:
1. “‘All inclusive’ doesn’t include everything.”
2. “There’s a lot to know about our service before you arrive.”
3. “Booking flights can be tricky.”
4. “Our hurricane guarantee doesn’t guarantee much.”
5. “Your travel agent gets incentives to book with us.”
6. “We might try to sell you a timeshare.”
7. “We typically cater to specific groups.”
8. “We’re not always the cheaper option.”
9. “‘Open bar’ isn’t as great as it sounds.”
10. “We can be bad for the local economy.”
For potential vacationers and timeshare owners, pay particular attention to item number 6 on the list. In order to reduce costs, hotels will allow timeshares to be marketed at the hotel, or they may have a timeshare division themselves. Although they may offer something for free for your attendance, just remember that it’s your vacation time that they’ll be taking from you. From personal experience, this can last up to 3 hours even though they promise only 90 minutes.
Reading over an article about the timeshare business in Dubai, I came across a quote from Jeff Tisdall, RCI Middle East and North Africa managing director who stated, “From a consumer perspective, the financial crisis helps to highlight some of the key advantages of timeshare. When times are tougher economically, we all tend to use what we already have.”
Mr. Tisdall implies that timeshare owners would not vacation in different locales when finances are difficult. Instead, owners would happily use their timeshares that they have already paid for during the year. So, we wanted to ask timeshare owners if they are using their timeshare more this year to see if this effect is true.
If you’re a timeshare owner, please take a moment and respond to this poll.
Please write your comments in the Comments section. We’d love to hear your opinion about your timeshare use this year. Feel free to write all you want and let us know how you are feeling this year.
As a timeshare owner, did your financial situation this year influence you to use your timeshare this year?
In our interview series, Timeshare Relief client, Charles Glenn is a satisfied customer that no longer has to pay for his timeshare that he did not want. Charles Glenn: That’s what we entered into the agreement to do.
